Mission Statement

The Canadian Association of New York (CANY) is a member-run organization and the focal point for the Canadian Community in the New York City area. Our goal is to build networks and connections between Canadians and those interested in Canada, through a wide variety of engaging social, cultural and business events held each year. CANY also helps its membership be actively involved in the New York community through the organization’s strong focus on charity.

President's Welcome

Hello Friends of Canada,

It might surprise you that the Canadian Association of New York (CANY) has been part of the New York’s cultural fabric since 1864. CANY's Board of Directors is extremely proud of this great network’s rich history, and we’re excited about continuing to build on this legacy.

In our era of rapid global change, the links between Canada and U.S. have grown increasingly deep, diverse, and complex. Economic growth and competitiveness, energy security, foreign policy, border security, and environmental health are issues that require strong collaboration between Canadians and Americans. Therefore, CANY’s mission to encourage cross-border ties, dialogue, and to build networks is an important one. As we all know, technology is changing the way we network in the world. At CANY, while embracing change, we continue to value the more traditional aspects of face-to-face networking.

The importance of charity involvement

At the core of CANY is our charitable focus. Over the years, we have contributed to the lives of many New Yorkers through our many fundraising and community-oriented activities, whether the Terry Fox Run for cancer research; the various children’s charities supported by our 501(c)3 Foundation, or specific initiatives such our special concert to raise funds for 9/11-related charities. We intend to continue giving our members the chance to be involved in charity events like these that support the goals of our organization. Jump in and get involved!

Or, take part in one of our many activities, including forums for business and political leaders; social and sporting events; cultural opportunities, and major fund-raisers. Have a look at the event calendar section to see what we have coming up.

CANY has a large and active individual membership base, and now a growing roster of Corporate Members. As a Corporate Member, your firm will receive visibility, special access to events, and opportunities to connect within our network.

Come help us out!

CANY is a member-run, volunteer-based organization and we rely on the hard work, support and assistance of many volunteers. We’re always on the look out for people who’d like to contribute their energy, ideas, skills and resources to help build CANY and our network. Please get in touch with me if you are interested.

Finally, I thank you for your interest, and I encourage you to become a member (either corporate or individual) and to be part of CANY at this exciting time in our history.

Sincerely,
Dean Keyworth
President, CANY
